VERA Collaborative is the Visual Electronic Representations in the Archive Collaborative
Mission
The mission of the Visual Electronic Representations in the Archive Collaborative (VERA Collaborative) is to raise awareness about the significance of aesthetic, cultural, and social implications of visual representations found in archives, providing a model for archives, libraries, museums, and cultural heritage centers around the world. VERA Collaborative addresses the distortions and erasures in visual representations, linked to reproduction technology, that particularly impacts communities of color and other under-represented communities.
Goals
The goals of VERA Collaborative include changing the culture of reproducing material with visual representations of communities of color and under-represented communities in collections by developing (embedding representation specialists in the process) and integrating strategies for retaining visual integrity in technology used for reproducing visual, text/visual materials; creating new guidelines/best practices for existing reproductive technology where aesthetic, cultural, and social implications play a significant role; disseminating new information to archives, libraries, museums and cultural heritage centers.
